After a thoroughly rotten road trip where the Red Sox went 2-7, they come home with two convincing wins over the Indians at Fenway.
John Lackey didn't have his best stuff on a rainy night last night, and the game was tied at 3 in the third inning. It had all the makings of a shootout.
But Lackey stopped the Indians right there. And the Sox took off. Old friend Justin Masterson couldn't find the plate for the Tribe, and was gone after 2+ innings. It was a night everyone but David Ortiz had a hit. Dustin Pedroia, Mike Napoli and A.J. Pierzynski each had two RBI. Daniel Nava continued hit recent hot hitting with two more hits, and Jackie Bradley also had two hits.
Last night's 10 runs were the first time all season the Red Sox scored in double digits.
The back-to-back wins were the offense coming alive finally (7-for-16 with RISP last night), and the strong pitching taking charge. The Sox are now at 31-36, eight games behind Toronto. They've taken three of the last four.
Can't get overly excited right now. But some encouraging signs are out there.
